Generator Factory-Approved Startup and Training Service

The purpose of factory-authorized startup service is to ensure that the installation complies with Generac's specifications, and that the unit operates as designed.  Startup Service is a single visit by our technician of up to 4-6 hours.  It is required for Industrial Series generators.  Startup Service is highly recommended but not required for the QT Quiet Test Series.

To avoid additional charges:

  • Before ordering the generator, consider our Generator Site Review Service.
  • Fill out the checklist below to make sure that the installation is complete prior to the startup visit, and fax it to the Generac dealer.
  • Startup occurs during normal business hours when the site and equipment are accessible.
  • The dealer sends the completed startup inspection form to Generac, activating the warranty.

If you would like the Generac dealer to complete any of the items, consult with them to ensure that their technician is completely prepared at the time of startup.  For information regarding wiring and fuel consumption / line size, please refer to the manual(s) that are provided with your unit(s).

[ ] Generator is securely mounted with proper anchoring devices.

[ ] Verified maximum gaseous fuel flow (CFH) required by generator to properly sized fuel lines.

[ ] Verified gas pressure to the generator, for natural gas:  5”-14”WC  (inches of water column), for QT generators of 60kW or less; or 11”-14”WC for generators of 70kW and above.  For LPV propane vapor, 11”-14”WC for all generators.

[ ] Fuel tank filled (if applicable). Fuel lines connected, purged and checked for leaks on gaseous units.

[ ] 120 VAC circuit wired to the battery charger terminal strip (this is also the coolant heater circuit).

[ ] 120 VAC circuit wired to auxiliary heaters (if any).

[ ] Larger block heaters wired to separate circuit (typically 240 volt, if applicable).

[ ] Battery installed. Water level checked, terminals connected and battery properly charged. Unit charger terminals coated with anticorrosion compound. Note: Use only de-ionized or distilled water for battery top-off. Caution: Remove fuses from battery charger AC side and control panel before connecting battery terminals. Replace charger AC fuse, then control panel fuse after battery terminal connection.

[ ] AC conductors properly connected to the main line circuit breaker.

[ ] Remote start wires (wires 178 & 183) connected from ATS to the generator connection box (run start and control wires in a separate conduit).

[ ] ATS properly connected to utility, load and emergency conductors per state, federal and local code.

[ ] Remote annunciator panel wiring terminated (if applicable). Annunciator wire to be run in a conduit with no AC voltage (run in start wire conduit or in separate conduit).

[ ] All ductwork and dampers properly installed and wired for use (if applicable). Genset has adequate spacing around it to allow for proper airflow into and out of the unit. Spacing around buildings and walls of structures must comply with local fire code.

[ ] Exhaust system installed completely and insulated (if applicable).

Unless arranged with the Generac dealer prior to the startup visit, additional charges may apply if a Generac dealer technician must perform work on any of the above items. Charges may also apply if the technician must wait for work to be completed or to gain access to the site.

You will get the most value from this startup if all those involved will attend, such as your staff and contractors.  They will be able to ask their questions and receive the training during the process.
